CANCERactive is a very different charity. Our aim is to help you increase your personal odds of beating cancer by providing you with information - ALL the information - not just on orthodox cancer treatments but on complementary therapies and the latest ´alternative´ cancer therapies too.

After all, the American Cancer Society in May 2012 issued a report concluding that since 2006 there has been an ´explosion´ in research on complementary therapies and there is ´overwhelming´ evidence that diet, exercise and weight control are three complementary therapies that can ´increase survival times´ and even ´prevent a cancer returning´. Our Mission - improving your personal odds of survival
This "mission" all started because my 22 year-old daughter was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and given barely 6 months to live. We both had science degrees - I had even studied cancer research - so we went on a massive information hunt to find out just what might really be able to help her - the best of the orthodox, the best of the complementary therapies, the best of the alternative treatments. We needed hard cancer facts, cancer treatments supported by quality research. Catherine lived nearly 8 times longer than predicted - and this 2000 page site is part of her legacy; it is produced largely by unpaid volunteers who just want to help you, and thousands like you.
We regularly receive over 2800 visitors a day - last week we had 12,600 in just two days!
The Truth is that there is so much information out there that can help you in your fight against cancer. The American Cancer Society in its report on complementary therapies stated that, since 2006, there had been an explosion in research into complementary therapies, and that there was overwhelming evidence that diet, exercise and weight control could keep you cancer free and increase your survival!!!

The magazine on the web
It is important to understand that we have never intended to be some science reference guide. We started life as a magazine - it tried to bring cancer out of the closet, in a lively, bright and inspiring way. In the last three magazines oncologists from America, the UK and elsewhere have contributed most of the articles. We are now taken by over 640 cancer centres. We helped the Royal Marsden with a clinical trial recruitment and they, along with Christies, Addenbrooks and the rest take our magazine (icon) and distribute it free to patients. This website just has the articles that have appeared in icon since day 1. Articles from oncologists are often personal views. Since there is no single defined treatment for, say, prostate cancer, you can expect to get several views!
