Too many cancer centres are doing complex procedures, without having the specialist skills. So, the generalism of the last two decades is going to make way for hospitals in specialist cancer fields.
St Bartholomew’s, University College and the Royal Free with be the focus of specialist cancer treatment in London, and within each they will try to create centres of excellence for particular cancers. Thus each will not cover all cancers.
Other hospitals in London and Essex will provide general cancer care, but refer patients for specialist treatment at one of the above three.
